EIGHTH GENERATION

84    Thomas Roe CARSON (see photo album) was born on 9 Oct., 1861 in Brazos County, Texas. He appeared in the 1880 census in Brazos County, Texas, and in the census of 1900, he is shown as living in the Texas A & M precinct, Brazos County, Texas. He and his brother Curtis Abernathy CARSON hauled sand, brick, and cement by wagon from the railroad box cars in the Bryan switch yard to A&M when it was being built.  Tom and Curtis helped to build the Country Club Lake on South College Avenue in Bryan, Texas in 1917 and 1918. They would use horse and bucket to dig out the lake area. He was living in Waller County, Texas when his first wife, Amber May died, and his mother, Amanda Roe was in his home helping during Amber's illness, when she also died a few days later, possibly of the same disease.  He died on 10 Dec., 1942 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. He was living with his son Noah "Noey" at the time of his death. He was buried in the Boonville Cemetery, Brazos County, Texas.

His first wife was (161) Amber May (Deaton) CARSON, who he married on 15 Oct., 1887 in Leon County, Texas. She was born in Waller County, Texas, and died on 19 April, 1892 in Waller County, Texas. Amber May and Thomas Roe were married for 5 years. She is buried with her family, but the location is not known. It is believed to be in the vicinity of Prairie View, Texas. Her mother- in-law, Amanda Roe (Curtis) CARSON, wife of Nathan Franklin CARSON, is also believed to be buried nearby.

152    Thomas Allen "Doc" CARSON was born on 19 Oct., 1900 in Brazos County, Texas.  He appeared on the census of 1920 in Brazos County, Texas, and died there on 26 April, 1992.  He was married to (313) Vera "Skeeter" (Halbrooks) CARSON on 16 Sept., 1924.  In May, 2002 she was living in Sherwood Nursing Home in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, and just recently celebrated her 95th birthday. Their only child was:

153    Amber May (Carson) THRELKELD was born on 7 Sept., 1894 at Union Hill, Brazos County, Texas and died on 4 Jan., 1997 in Houston, Harris County, Texas (which was almost 102 years!).  In an article in the Houston Chronicle, dated 31 Aug., 1996, she was quoted as saying that when she was 4 years old she would get a stick and march along with the cadets of Texas A & M when they were drilling. She relates having fired a pistol at what she thought was a burglar, but which turned out to be a large black dog snacking on meat left hanging on her porch.  She had worked as a telephone operator and as an envelope-stuffer at A&M. She had been a church organist.  She lived in a neatly trimmed home near I-45 south of downtown Houston. She was married to (315) Clyde Dewitt THRELKELD on 1 Jan., 1913, an elopement.  He had worked at A & M as chief engineer at the power plant. He was born on 7 May, 1894 and died on 13 Feb., 1986 in Houston, Harris County, Texas.  They had two children:

154    Leona Mable "Lonnie" (Carson) PHILLIPS was born on 10 Apr., 1896 in College Station, Brazos County, Texas and died on 28 May, 1962 in Brazos County, Texas.  She was buried in July, 1962 in Leon County, Texas.  She appeared on the census of 1920 in Brazos County, Texas, along with her husband and daughter, living in the home of Thomas Roe Carson.  She was married to (316) Earl PHILLIPS on 8 April, 1917.  Their only known child was:

157    Vivian Roe CARSON was born on 13 Nov., 1910 in College Station, Brazos County, Texas and died on 1 April, 1954 in Brazos County, Texas.  He was married to (318) Nora (Mendendella) CARSON on 25 April, 1943.  It is not known if they had any children.    

158     Tommie Inez (Carson) McGREGOR was born on 5 June, 1912 and died on 1 Oct., 1964 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas of Hodgkins disease. She was married to (320) Theodore "Ted" McGREGOR in 1937 in San Antonio. He was born on 9 Mar., 1910 in Milano, Milam County, Texas and died on 13 June, 1989 in Bexar County, Texas. They had one adopted daughter:

159    Clyde Alton "Uncle Buck" CARSON was born on 20 April, 1914 in College Station, Brazos County, Texas and died on 23 Nov., 1991 in Nueces County.  He was married to (1083) Ruby Louise (Lummnus) CARSON. Their children were:

160     Ida Josephine (Carson) RAMSEY was born on 31 March, 1903 in Union Hill, in Bryan, and died on 22 Aug., 1956 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas. She is buried in the Boonville Cemetery, Brazos County, Texas in a family plot. She was married to (319) William Travis PHILLIPS on 25 Sept., 1919 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas. He was born on 16 Aug., 1898 and died and was buried near San Angelo in Tom Green County, Texas. He worked in construction in San Angelo, Texas, and because housing was not available, they lived in a tent city.  She contracted typhoid fever, and shortly after her recovery, they moved out of the tent.  They were divorced on 15 Dec., 1932 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas.  Their known children were:

He was born on 28 March, 1898 in Roans Prairie, Grimes County, Texas, and died on 3 Sept., 1974 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, of a stroke.  He is buried in the Boonville Cemetery, Brazos County, Texas.

According to (283) Deborah Sue (Bajenske) SCHMIDT, relating a story told to her by her grandmother, (160) Ida Josephine "Josie" (Carson) RAMSEY, they went to Mexico to get their marriage license and that the civil ceremony was performed in Windgate. Deborah stated that she is of the opinion that it was a common law marriage, as no records have been found to substantiate the marriage.

Marshall Leonard RAMSEY died on 3 Sept., 1974 and is buried in Boonville Cemetery, next to his wife Ida Josephine, Daughter Eugenia, and son L. Marshall RAMSEY. Their children were:

"Josie" attended the Union Hill School located on the corner of South College Avenue and Royall Street in Bryan.  The school was a one-room wooden building where grades 1 through 12 were taught.  Mrs. Baird's Bakery is now at that location and prior to that it was Holsum Bakery, which was purchased from cousin Johnnie Dale Carroll Jolly in 1957  She remembered the trolly car which ran down Cavitt Avenue to their house in Union Hill (Union Hill became part of Bryan prior to 1938).  She also remembered the first hamburger stand in Bryan - it ws established about 1910 and was located on 24th Street where the Piggly Wiggly is now located.

162      Noah "Noey" Abernathy CARSON was born on 24 Nov., 1889 in Centerville, Leon County, Texas and died on 1 May, 1948 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, where he is also buried.  He was married to (331) Mary Ann (Royall) CARSON on 26 Oct., 1910 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas. She died on 25 Mar., 1978 In Dallas, Dallas County Texas, and is buried there. (See chapter 15 for information on the Royall family). Their known children were:

163    Alvin Nathan CARSON was born on 16 April, 1890 in Concord, Leon County, Texas and died on 12 Jan., 1953.  He was married to (333) Mary Lillie (Mills) CARSON on 29 Jan., 1911.  She was born 3 May, 1893 and died on 17 Nov., 1939. Their known child was:

             County, Texas, and married (1090) Leland EVANS on 1 Nov., 1934.  She died in
             Las Cruces, New Mexico.     

TENTH GENERATION

314    James Edward CARSON was born on 7 March, 1926 in Brazos County, Texas.  He served in the military in 1944 at a Naval Training Station in California.  He was a yoeman third class and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Philipines Liberation Medal, the Victory Ribbon, and the ATO ribbon.  He had an excellent voice, and sang "Asleep in Jesus" at the funeral of Willie Lucinda White in Feb., 1953, Calvary Baptist Church, Bryan, Texas.  He also sang at the funerals of Thomas Roe Carson and L. Marshall Ramsey.  He and his first wife sang on the radio in Huntsville, Texas, when they were in college. He was educated at Stephen F. Austin High School, Brazos County, Texas, and was well thought of in high school.  He died on 17 Oct. 1989 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas. He was married to (289) Barbara Ruth (Renner) CARSON. They had two children:

322      Clyde Bernard PHILLIPS (aka Lenard Marshall RAMSEY) was born on 25 Feb., 1932 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas.  He died of heart failure at the age of 19 on 22 May, 1951 in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, and is buried at Boonville Cemetery in Brazos County, Texas.  He was never married and had no children. Although his name at birth was Clyde Bernard PHILLIPS, he used the name Lenard Marshall RAMSEY.

323    Martha DeeOmia (Ramsey) BAJENSKE was born on 26 Sept., 1934 in Iola, Grimes County, Texas.  She married (282) Duane Arnold BAJENSKE on 2  while he was stationed at the Bryan Air Force Base, where they met.  He was born on 13 May, 1931 in Sebeka, Ottertail County, Minnesota and died in January 1990 of complications caused by cancer.  He is buried in Menahga Cemetery, Menahga, Minnesota. Their children were:

324    Mary Ella (Ramsey) BAJENSKE was born on 13 Jan., 1940 in Iola, Grimes County, Texas.  She married the brother of Duane Arnold Bajenske, (284) Anton Richard BAJENSKE, on 15 Feb., 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  She worked for the Bryan Daily Eagle newspaper for many years. Anton was born on 18 Nov., 1935 in Spruce Grove, Becker County, Minnesota.  Her served in the US Army.  Their children are:

He died on 10 Feb., 1999 at his home in College Station, Brazos County, Texas, and is buried in Raymondville City Cemetery, Raymondville, Willacy County, Texas.  They had three sons:

A. (as he was called) served in the US Army Air Force in World War II and was business manager of Story Book Playhouse Dance Studio, Duncanville, Texas, a family owned business.  He had been married 59 years at the time of his death.  Their children were:

She graduated from Baylor University with a BS degree in 1962 and her MS in nursing from the University of Washington, Seatle, Washington in 1968.  She was an assistant professor of Nursing at Houston Baptist University.  In 1969 she was an instructor in the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia.

1097    Thomas Abbernathy MILLER was born on 14 July, 1938 in Hays County, Texas, at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital (now a dormitory and classroom building for San Marcos Baptist Academy)..  His middle name has two "b's", as his grandfather signed his name "Abb".  In 2002 he was living in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas.  He attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas, Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, and South Texas Junior College (now the University of Houston), in Houston, Texas. He was an oil landman in Houston, Texas, and was president of Sunshine Land Management Inc.  He was married to (1468) Gay Nell (Oliver) MILLER in Bellaire, Texas.  She was born on 8 Nov., 1944 in Mobile, Alabama. They were divorced.  They had one daughter:
     1469    Teresa Ann MILLER was born on 26 Aug., 1961.  She graduated from Sam 
                  Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and is a music teacher. 

He then married (1470) Nancy Joan (Stalder) MILLER on 19 Nov., 1966.  She was born on 7 May, 1937. Thomas and Nancy have lived in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas since 1996. He is a graduate of the Houston Police Department Citizen's Police Academy, and assists the local police force as a hobby.

1484    Bradshaw Teague CARSON was born on 8 Sept., 1945 and died on 19 Dec., 1991.  He was married to (1487) Cynthia Ann (Maylor) CARSON on 8 Aug., 1972.  Brad served in the US Navy from 1969 to 1974, and had worked as a pharmacist for 20 years.  At the time of his death he was starting a new career in computers.  He was murdered while changing a flat tire on his car outside his pharmacy.  It is thought that his killer(s) wanted the wrapped Christmas presents that were in the back seat of his car. They had two children:
